A Major New Building For Remarkables Park

A Major New Building For Remarkables Park Town Centre

Developer Remarkables Park has lodged a resource consent application with the Queenstown Lakes District Council for a proposed two-storey building to contain retail and office space.

The $12 million new building, adjacent to Smiths City and opposite The Warehouse at the Remarkables Park development, will complete the lower shopping centre precinct.

Designed by award-winning architects Mason and Wales of Dunedin as another regionally appropriate building, the exterior will incorporate local schist stone with sympathetic landscape design and variations in colour to break up its scale.

Work on the proposed building is due to start in July, and is scheduled for completion by April 2008. It will provide 2175sqm of ground floor space for more national tenants, including fashion retail, a mix of one large store, one medium-sized store, and two smaller stores.

The building also has 2144sqm of superior first floor office space, with in-built flexibility to meet tenants’ unique requirements.

Plans show the building will be environmentally sensitive – designed with energy saving considerations in mind – including double glazing, acoustic treatments, efficient insulation, and the potential to harvest rainwater for use in the Remarkables Park Zone.

The building is part of Remarkables Park Limited’s continuing staged expansion, and will complement the vibrancy and customer-friendly nature of the popular shopping centre.

“This is yet another very attractive, architecturally designed building by Mason and Wales,” said Remarkables Park director Alastair Porter.

“We’ve received very positive feedback on the style of architecture and retail at Remarkables Park and we expect Queenstown customers will be well pleased with this new building when it opens in early 2008,” he said.

“I’m sure they will also welcome the further retail opportunities and services this next stage of the Remarkables Park Town Centre expansion will provide.”

Directors Alastair and John Porter have developed the Remarkables Park Town Centre to provide the Queenstown district with a second CBD.

“In doing so, we have sought to complement the existing business in Queenstown’s downtown centre by providing larger national stores with very competitive pricing. Our expansion has been staged so as to not unduly impact on Queenstown’s downtown area,” Mr Porter said.

All work on the shopping centre element of the larger Remarkables Park Zone will be completed within the next two years.

Remarkables Park national retailers currently include New World, The Warehouse, Noel Leeming, Smiths City, Mitre 10, Dick Smith, Hannahs, Video Ezy, ASB Bank and the Flight Centre. Also represented are H&J Smith department store, a pharmacy, health store, physiotherapist, a family hair salon, clothing and sports stores, and a restaurant and café.
