SH20 Manukau Harbour Crossing – Must be built by 2010/11 ahead of Rugby World Cup”
Auckland City and the Auckland Regional Council were today challenged to make a clear statement that they are committed to working with Transit to ensure the completion of the SH20 Manukau Harbour Crossing duplication before the Rugby World Cup in 2011.
Responding to the consent hearing decision setting out a long list of complex conditions, especially at the Auckland City side, Auckland Business Forum chairman Michael Barnett said that Aucklanders have had enough of hearing about what can’t be done.
“Transit gave us a date of 2010/11 for building a new bridge, the Government has provided the money, so that still needs to be the date,” said Mr Barnett.
“What we will be looking for from Auckland City and the ARC is a 110% commitment to work in collaboration with Transit, Manukau City and other key parties to ensure the issues raised in the consent decision are solved to ensure the project is completed by 2010/11.”
