Digital Design Gurus Meet for More Magic in Wellington
Animators, game developers and special effects gurus will meet up again in Wellington in the second AnimfxNZ Symposium to be held on November 5th and 6th 2007.
A special trust, The New Zealand Games, Animation, Visual Effects Trust (NZ GAV) has been formed to organise the event this year which develops partnerships between industry, academic and government representation, all interested in growing this creative technology export focused sector.
GAV NZ is in partnership with the prestigious Los Angeles-based Visual Effects Society (VES). VES is the industry’s only organisation that represents the full breadth of visual effects practitioners in all areas of entertainment, from film and television, to music videos and games worldwide.
“The Visual Effects Society (VES) is pleased to become a partner with NZ GAV and to once again join all of our friends in New Zealand’s visual effects, animation and gaming industries,” said Eric Roth, VES Executive Director.
“New Zealand’s leading talents are known world over and as AnimfxNZ has evolved with NZ GAV, we are confident that this year’s event will be even bigger and better than last year’s. Also, knowing that HP has come on board as this year’s leading sponsor is icing on the cake of good news – we can’t wait for November to come around!” Eric Roth, Director VES
Premier sponsors Hewlett Packard and New Zealand Trade & Enterprise are building on the popularity of last year’s AnimfxNZ which attracted over 200 professionals across the sector from New Zealand and international guest speakers.
"HP New Zealand is delighted to come on board as Premier Sponsor for AnimfxNZ 2007" says Blair McKenzie, Workstations Product Marketing Manager for HP New Zealand. "This will strengthen further our already solid ties into the Animation and Visual FX community in New Zealand and beyond, and with the talent lined up for this year's event, it promises to be very exciting indeed".
Keynote speaker Tim Johnson Director of ‘Over the Hedge’ from Dreamworks SKG®, had so much fun last year, he’s coming back. Mr Johnson says:
“ANIMFXNZ proved that New Zealand has stepped to the front of the world stage in animation and VFX. The information, contacts and energy of that jam packed weekend will stay with me…this was one amazing symposium.”
Industry leaders from Canada, Britain, Australia and the U.S will participate in two days of lectures, screenings and workshops at the Wellington Town Hall.
The community of artists, animators, game developers and special effects wizards will showcase recent work, techniques and behind the scenes insights into what really goes into making the amazing special effects of filmmaking.
Other contributors from throughout New Zealand’s animation, post-production studios and computer games studios will also showcase their recent creative work and technology innovations.
