New Food And Wine Blend For Marlborough

New food and wine blend for Marlborough’s Golden Triangle

Drylands Winery has long been the ‘pick of Marlborough’ for wine aficionados. Now you can enjoy dining in its equally exquisite new restaurant overlooking some of the region’s oldest sauvignon blanc vines in the original Home Block vineyard.

Drylands Restaurant officially opens this week (Aug 31) and renowned international restauranteur Dietmar Schnarre has created a menu that matches the finest local ingredients, with the pick from Drylands, Rose Tree Cottage, Nobilo and Selaks vineyards.

“The menu will feature the best of Marlborough and South Island produce and all the food will be prepared in the open plan kitchen – so diners can enjoy watching their meals being prepared in front of them,” says Schnarre.

He promises the menu will always feature fresh fish, lamb, scallops, mussels and Canterbury Angus for the meat-lovers. A range of vegetarian, gluten-free, and children’s options will also be available.

“The cuisine is designed to complement Drylands wines as well as other wines available for enjoyment and purchase. To be cooking in a brand-new kitchen surrounded by one of the Marlborough’s oldest vineyards is inspiring and I’m really looking forward to it,” he says.

Schnarre also owns the famed Bellafico Restaurant in Blenheim, and has worked in some of the top restaurants in Switzerland.

Drylands winemaker Darryl Woolley says he is sure the restaurant will become a local favourite and is ideal for intimate occasions or weddings and larger functions.

“It’s such a great, beautiful spot here in the heart of the ‘Golden Triangle’ of Marlborough,” he says. “We have created a restaurant to complement the location – one we know is ideal for lunch with a loved one, or as the perfect backdrop to a wedding.

“The cellar door is adjacent to the restaurant so visitors can come and try a selection of award-winning wines before selecting one to complement their meal.”

Woolley says the Drylands vineyards are currently made up of 43ha sauvignon blanc, 1.5ha semillon, and 1.5ha chardonnay.

Drylands Restaurant is open daily from 10am to 5pm and is also available for weddings and functions.
