For immediate release: 10 October 2007

Mission Reserve Viognier Triumphs At The Liquorland Top 100

Mission Estate Winery’s Mission Reserve Viognier 2007 has been recognised as the champion wine in its class at the Liquorland Top 100 2007 International Wine Competition.

The Mission Reserve Viognier received the competition’s three highest accolades: a Top 100 Trophy, a Top 100 Gold and a Top 100 Best Value prize.

The judges’ comments state that the Mission Reserve Viognier has “Concentrated toasty, caramelised peaches on the nose followed by a rich palate of spicy oak, stone fruits and fresh herbs.” They describe the wine as “A powerful white wine with a good depth of concentration and intense array of flavours. Highly memorable.”

The Liquorland Top 100 International Wine Competition is the most comprehensive guide to wines available in the New Zealand market. For the 2007 competition, a team of 21 highly experienced wine judges tasted more than 1,300 wines from New Zealand, Australia, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, South Africa, Chile and Argentina, to come up with the Liqourland Top 100 - the best 100 wines from the competition.

Mission Estate brand manager, Rebecca Nicholls, says the winery is pleased to have been recognised in this high calibre competition.

“More than 1000 wines from all over the world were entered in the Liquorland Top 100, and we are very proud that our Viognier stood out amongst the international competition.

“Viognier is still relatively unknown in New Zealand and we hope that this award will encourage more Kiwis to try this great style.”
