CUE TV is Freeview's tenth TV channel

PRESS RELEASE: 28th November, 2007

CUE TV is Freeview's tenth TV channel

Freeview is pleased to announce that CUE TV will this week become the tenth television channel to join the free-to-air digital satellite service at channel number 23.

Steve Browning, General Manager, Freeview says CUE TV offers an eclectic mix of programming comprising a high percentage of local productions with around 82% of its 24 hour schedule being made in New Zealand. "We are very pleased that after little more than six months we have doubled the number of free-to-air television services that Freeview offers New Zealanders."

The channel is a prolific producer of news, political, lifestyle and sports shows that reflect provincial people and events, along with a burgeoning reputation for quality coverage of niche sporting and cultural activities around the country.

A key feature of the schedule is educational programming provided by the Southern Institute of Technology (SIT) as part of their mixed media delivery programme for extra mural students nationwide, within the highly successful Zero Fees Scheme run by the institute.

Managing Director of CUE TV Tom Conroy said the ability to provide a low cost option for students participating in SIT studies, was part of the attraction to join Freeview. "The more ways we can assist our client to deliver quality tertiary education from afar the better".

The take-up rate of Freeview's satellite service was also a draw card, "instantly accessing another 62,000 homes, together with our own stellar growth in viewer numbers, adds value for our customer base", said Mr Conroy.

CUE TV currently broadcasts on SKY's digital satellite pay-tv service and can be found on Channel 110. Access to Cue TV via SKY will not be affected by its addition to the Freeview satellite service. Mr Conroy acknowledges the cooperation of SKY, with such access being mutually beneficial to both parties.
