Arts and Crafts Centre Stage at Autumn Home Show

General Release
1/04/2008

Arts and Crafts Centre Stage at the Autumn Home Show

Reliving the rich history and tradition of handmade crafts is the Sewing Stitching and Handcraft Show - a vibrant feature of the Autumn Home Show, where you’ll discover all-sorts to beautify your home, enrich your life and to inspire, amuse and delight.

Whether it’s buttons or motifs, appliqué or stickers, or simply to meet people at the top of their field in the world of craft, come the Sewing, Stitching and Handcraft Show is New Zealand’s most extensive presentation of handcrafts, with many beautiful and informative exhibits that won’t be seen anywhere else.

Preserving the heritage and championing the cause of traditional arts and crafts, the Autumn Home Show brings you a stellar line up this year with old time favourite Julie van der Putten, aka ‘Puddle’ back to showcase her latest ideas. Recognised as “the Martha Stewart of the quilting world”, watch with amazement as she makes a bracelet in minutes and teaches you to create ‘one of a kind’ pieces of Jewellery. Puddle will also be demonstrating the latest tricks of the trade in Needle Felting, Yo Yo's, and Pom Pom makers.

Creative Fibre will be offering the chance to do some basic felt making either for the home or for yourself and showcasing student creations daily in a ‘Wild Fibres’ fashion show. With everything from peacock feathers to a doghair jumper, be prepared to be surprised with the weird and wonderful fabric choices at this unique show!

Kalsbeek Creative Crafts will be demonstrating a large range of European crafts, templates, punches, 3D papertole sheets, die-cut sheets and tons of stickers. Sewing technology giant Singer will be bringing the breakthrough CE-250; a brand new embroidery/sewing machine with extraordinary versatility and features for demonstrating throughout the show.

Swiftquilter will also be showcasing its latest model which is proving to be highly successful in overcoming the problems of quilting with domestic sewing machines. Visitors will be able to try the Lutterloh new German Pattern Making System at a hands-on workshop where you will be able to draft your own waistcoat pattern using only bust and hip measurements. Alternatively, watch a demonstration where you will be taught how to knit or design and your own designer bag with Bev James. And of course Martin Smith, fondly known as the ‘Elna Man’ with his passion for quilting couture will be here showing us how to achieve that professional finish - this year with a particular focus on incorporating quilt stitching talents into reversible vests.

The Sewing Stitching and Handcraft Show is also a great place to ask those small but important questions on threads and techniques and generally mingle with those who share your craft. All this and more, only at the Autumn Home Show.

Times: Friday 10am-6pm, Saturday 10am-6pm, Sunday 10am-6pm
