Media Release: April 9 2008

Simes Welcomes New Business Broker To Team

Mary Donovan has joined Simes as a business broker, bringing a wealth of experience in the area of commercial real estate.

Mary started out in Tauranga in the field of retail leasing before moving to Auckland and has been involved in commercial real estate since 1993.

She says she loves the commercial side of the business and is used to dealing at a very high level.

"Solving puzzles spins my wheels and that is what commercial real estate is all about," she says. "It's all about finding out what's unique about a business and matching that with someone who can see the opportunity."

She says she has to be able to think laterally in her business, but most importantly to earn her client's trust.

"Trust is everything in this business. There is such a confidential aspect to selling businesses and underlying it is trust."

Mary says analysis is also an important part of dealing in the commercial world.

"You have to be able to analyse a business so you know exactly where it fits in the marketplace, but it's also very important to be able to move the goalposts when necessary."

Mary was brought up in a small town in the Bay of Plenty and spent most of her life there before moving to Auckland. She says she appreciates the differences between small centres and cities and has no regrets about her shift south.

"Christchurch is such a beautiful city and it only takes five minutes to get places. I've certainly noticed my stress levels are down!"

She's also enjoying the environment within Simes.

"I love the size of Simes and there is a real buzz amongst the team which in my line of work is so helpful. My job can be very lonely, so the camaraderie here is so important to me."
