Skills Strategy a Significant Step

The Industry Training Federation has welcomed the release of the New Zealand Skills Strategy discussion document. “

This is a significant step in developing a shared vision to build the skills of our future workforce,” Industry Training Federation Chair John Meeuwsen said today.

The Industry Training Federation, a membership organisation representing all of New Zealand’s 40 Industry Training Organisations, is one of the key partners developing the strategy. “We’re pleased that the discussion paper lends weight to ITOs’ role in working closely with industry to both develop and arrange training. “It also outlines new challenges that ITOs are ready to tackle. “

Chief among these is the recognition of how important it is to link workplace-based learning to the other factors that contribute to economic development. Industry training is about integrating learning with improvements in the way workplaces operate and ensuring training complements new and innovative processes.”

Mr Meeuwsen said the ITF would be encouraging its members and the employers they work with to take an active ongoing interest in the New Zealand Skills Strategy.
