Media release May 25th, 2008

Heli-Taxi Service Launches For Winter Ski Season At Luxury High Country Resort

Canterbury high country resort Terrace Downs has today announced the launch of a new Heli-Taxi service – a timely winter addition to the array of exciting activities on offer at the luxury getaway destination just an hour's drive from Christchurch airport.

In partnership with Mt Hutt Helicopters, Terrace Downs will provide a Heli-Taxi service between the resort and the car park at the Mt Hutt Ski Area for just $65 each way – the ultimate in value for money and convenience for winter sports enthusiasts. The service is available to both in-house guests and Park'n'Ride visitors.

Forget the usual 50-minute challenging drive up the mountain from Terrace Downs, with the Heli-Taxi service you will escape the hassle of chains and beat the mountain traffic. The scenic trip takes just five minutes by helicopter – so you'll be sipping a hot chocolate at the Terrace Downs Clubhouse one minute, and within ten minutes you will be up the mountain clipping on your skis or snowboard! For added convenience, Mt Hutt lift passes can also be purchased at Terrace Downs.

As the closest ski field to Terrace Downs, Mt Hutt is renowned for some of the best snow in Australasia, offering 472 hectares of diverse terrain for skiers and snowboarders. Due to open on June 14, 2008, Mt Hutt typically averages an incredible six month ski season on groomed slopes that cater for beginners through to experts.

This winter, Terrace Downs will also be introducing a shuttle bus between the resort and Methven in conjunction with local transport operators. The new service will be great for those staying in the village who are keen to experience Terrace Downs' offering and for house guests wanting a 'night on the town' in Methven.

For those non-skiing days – you'll be spoilt for choice with the exciting range of activities on offer at Terrace Downs – from a Discovery Jet boating adventure or a Horse Safari to ice skating, Blokarting, golf or an indulgent massage.

In the evening, treat yourself to award-winning cuisine in Avoca Fine Dining or relax at Tilley's Bar & Brasserie.

Weather permitting, the Terrace Downs Heli-Taxi service will operate on the weekends from the Terrace Downs Clubhouse (bookings recommended). Flights will depart from 8.30am during the Mt Hutt ski season (first lifts operate from 9am, base lodge opens at 8.30am).

The Heli-Taxi service may also operate from Monday to Friday if there is high demand for the service and optimum weather conditions.
