5-star ANCAP rating for Lancer

New Lancer’s uncompromising, safety-conscious design has achieved the highest recognition possible from the Australian New Car Assessment Programme (ANCAP), achieving the highest possible rating of 5-stars.

Mitsubishi developed the new Lancer to the highest safety specifications, targeting the 5-star standard. It was one of the first in its class to offer driver’s knee airbags as standard and features a range of measures to protect all vehicle occupants.

Every New Zealand variant is equipped with seven airbags in total, including driver’s knee, which hold the driver in a safer position during frontal impacts. Front and rear curtain airbags gained a maximum two points in the optional pole test, contributing to the overall score. They are complemented by side and dual-stage airbags in the front.

Other safety technologies such as Mitsubishi’s Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution (RISE), three-point ELR seatbelts and Active Stability Control (ASC) helped new Lancer achieve five stars.

The maximum ANCAP rating underlines new Lancer’s credentials as a family car; its larger size already providing extra room for the kids and a design makeover appealing to discerning parents.

For budgets feeling the pinch of rising fuel prices, the advanced 16-valve 2.0L MIVEC engine under its hood provides an economically and environmentally friendly fuel consumption of only 7.7 litres of unleaded per 100km for the manual SX.

“Customers have been responding extremely well to the new Lancer,” said Mitsubishi Motors New Zealand general manager Peter Wilkins. “It was engineered to achieve the highest possible crash test safety rating and while we’re very pleased with the result, it comes as no surprise – we always knew the new Lancer was going to be one of the safest cars on the road.”
