News Release

YELLOWGLEN PERLE AWARDED CUISINE’S PRESTIGIOUS FIVE STAR RATING

YELLOWGLEN’S 2005 PERLE VINTAGE SINGLED OUT FROM 73 SPARKLING

WINES FROM AROUND THE WORLD

Yellowglen Vintage Perle continues its award-winning success and has just been chosen by Cuisine as one of just five sparkling wines from around the world to receive it’s prestigious fivestar rating, and wear the coveted ‘Recommended by Cuisine’ sticker.

Announced today, Cuisine’s John Belsham and his panel awarded Yellowglen’s 2005 Perle vintage its accolade from over 73 sparkling wines in its annual tasting, and will publish these results in its November 2008 issue (issue number 131) which goes on sale Monday 27 October.

Yellowglen, the number one selling sparkling wine brand in Australia, with sales in excess of one million cases, and $100 million dollars per year, launched in New Zealand earlier this month.

Established in 1971, Yellowglen brings its impressive pedigree to this country with a new range, which includes Yellowglen Yellow, the number one selling sparkling product in Australia, Yellowglen Jewel, a delicious lower calorie, lower alcohol alternative [30% less calories and 40% less alcohol when compared to Yellowglen Yellow and Yellowglen Pink, with between 60-65 calories per serve (150ml) which compares to a standard glass of sparkling which contains, on average, 99 calories.], and a premium vintage range including Bella, Pinot Noir Chardonnay and Crémant.

Yellowglen’s premium award-winning Vintage Perle completes the range and is an elegant and timeless classic sparkling wine. A traditional blend of premium Australian Pinot Noir Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier from some of Australia’s premium growing areas, Vintage Perle has a fine bead and delicious mousse.

Chief winemaker Charles “Chilly” Hargraves thanked Cuisine for its acknowledgement of the effort of his entire winemaking team in making this most premium of the Yellowglen sparkling wines.

“The attention to detail the team puts into making Perle is of utmost importance to us and to achieve the desired elegance and finesse, we select the best sparkling vineyards in the premium regions of the Adelaide Hills, Henty, Yarra Valley and Mornington Peninsula.

In the winery, we use only the juice from the first pressing – often at less than 500 litres per tonne. All of the base wines are put through malolactic fermentation and then we leave them in contact with the primary yeast less for about nine months before racking into the base blend.

This technique builds more layers of complexity and mouth feel in the finished wine and the final result is a blend of over thirty different components, and we are very proud of it.

If you haven’t tasted Perle yet, you’ve just got to next time you’re out – it is simply delicious,” says Chilly.

Yellowglen Vintage Perle has a recommended retail price of $24.99 and is now available throughout New Zealand, in premium restaurants and bars.
