Maria Carlton Named Business Person Of The Year

Maria Carlton Named Business Person Of The Year

The head of a Waikato-based specialist publishing company is celebrating being named Business Person of the Year by the National Speakers' Association.

Maria Carlton, of Maruki Books, has been publishing books for professional speakers, trainers, consultants and coaches since 2007 and has carved a niche for her business among a very traditional industry by being innovative and offering services not always readily available to emerging authors.

Carlton is also a best-selling international author with a number of books to her credit including The Power of Promotional Products, The Marketing Minefield and just released Golden Nuggets. She was also awarded Author of the Year in 2005 by the National Speakers’ Association (Auckland).

A prolific writer and professional speaker on subjects ranging from business, branding and customer service as they relate to marketing and helping small business owners to move forward through the challenges of becoming successful.

Maruki Books is also behind a number of top selling NZ authors including John Shackleton, (Life is for Living) and David Kelly (Secrets of Website Persuasion), and took 22 books to the Frankfurt Book Fair in October as both publisher and literary agent for self-published authors throughout Australasia.

Carlton says that her company was always designed to make it easier for non-fiction authors and professional experts to create, market and distribute their books and sees a lot of potential for these authors to firmly establish themselves on the international literary markets through her contacts and abilities to open doors with other publishers and distributors worldwide. So far in 2008 she has helped two authors sell their work to international publishers including World Arabic Rights for Ann Andrews book ‘Excellent Employment’.

Maruki Books has recently launched an exclusive coaching and development programme working with new authors on creating books for the non-fiction business and entrepreneurs markets, as well as forming an exclusive alliance with top US publishing mentor John Eggen. John offers a world class book development programme (which Carlton was a graduate of in 2004) and works extensively with the likes of Mark Victor Hansen (Chicken soup for the soul), Brian Tracy (Eat that Frog) and Ken Blanchard (One Minute Manager) – all high ranking multi-million bestselling authors.

John has said of Maria that this award is well deserved and has offered his heartfelt congratulations. The combination of services offered by Eggen and Carlton is suited to any serious expert who believes they have a book inside them and wants help developing their skills and marketability as an international author.

The National Speakers Association has been in New Zealand for 12 years and is part of the International Federation for Professional Speakers.

National President Martz Witty says that authorship and speaking go hand in hand, as many professional speakers offer books to their audiences to help position their expertise and assist people seeking ‘how-to’ ideas and motivation. Getting the kind of help offered by Maria Carlton to avoid making common mistakes in publishing is very important as so much money can be wasted in not getting it right from the start.
