All you need is love this February

Press release from The Hermitage Aoraki Mount Cook

10 February 2009

All you need is love this February

Love is in the air this February at one of New Zealand’s most romantic retreats.

While Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, The Hermitage Hotel at Aoraki Mount Cook is giving lovers the perfect excuse to romance their special someone any time during the month of February.

On the big day, valentines can enjoy a ‘romance and roses’ package which includes one night in a Premium Room with stunning views of Aoraki Mount Cook, a red rose and box of chocolates, a romantic four course candlelit dinner in the award-winning Panorama restaurant with a complimentary bottle of house wine, plus admission to ‘Alpine Valentine’, a one-night only stargazing feature in the planetarium.  Stargazers are welcomed with a glass of bubbles and chocolate dipped strawberries to set the mood.

For the rest of the month couples can ‘say I love you’ by taking advantage of a package that includes one night in a Superior Room with exceptional views of Aoraki Mount Cook and a romantic four course dinner in the Panorama restaurant with a complimentary bottle of house wine.  A late checkout the next morning is the perfect leisurely start to the day.

Other February special offers include a $129 ‘Get a Room’ special as well as a six course tasting menu which changes daily to incorporate the freshest produce.

The Hermitage General Manager Denis Callesen says Mount Cook’s isolation and stunning surroundings makes falling in love easy.

“People come for the wow factor.  Driving into the National Park and World Heritage Area and up towards Mount Cook feels like you’re entering another world.  You’re surrounded by towering mountains, turquoise lakes, and then there’s New Zealand’s tallest mountain right in front of you.

“There’s a host of activities to choose from including the Sir Edmund Hillary Alpine Centre, Tasman Lake/Glacier boat trips, scenic flights, glacier landings, hiking and mountaineering, heli-biking, fishing, and amazing local food and wine.  People can choose to do as much or as little as they want.

“The region is also the best place in New Zealand for stargazing because of its brilliantly clear night sky and lack of light pollution.”

When asked to share how he adds a little romance to his own life, Denis says “I think one of the most special ways to finish the day is having a drink on the Hillary Deck with my wife and watching the sun set over Mount Cook.”

Packages are subject to availability and must be booked directly on www.hermitage.co.nz or by calling The Hermitage reservations team on +64 3 435 1809.
