Labour's scaremongering of small business very disappointing

 Labour's scaremongering around the introduction of the Government's 90-day probation period, effective from today, is irresponsible from a political party supposedly there to represent the best interests of the workers," says a key Auckland business group.  

“Trevor Mallard’s going around advising people not to consider a job in a business that employs less than 20 people, because employees of small business will supposedly get fired easier. That’s just ridiculous. No organisation is the business of employing people to then fire them. What’s more many opportunities in this recessionary environment can be found in small and medium-sized businesses,” says Cameron Brewer, head of the Newmarket Business Association  

“New Zealand is a country of small businesses, with over 80% of our businesses deemed small and the retail sector the country’s largest employer. Employees of small business can often advance their career quicker than those in large corporates. What’s more in this economic environment there simply aren’t the opportunities in large companies, with many downsizing staff, particularly middle management.

“Labour should be encouraging job hunters and small business, not scaremongering. It is simply irresponsible," says Cameron Brewer.
