Telstraclear/Sky Partnership Moves Into The Future

TelstraClear and SKY Television confirmed today that they have reached an agreement to provide programming services to TelstraClear customers for a further four years.

The partnership sees SKY as the content provider and TelstraClear as the network provider, delivering key benefits to each party.

TelstraClear’s Head of Consumer Markets Steve Jackson welcomes the continued relationship.

“The agreement has worked well since first signed in 2001. It enables us to provide our customers with quality content as part of our unique triple play package of TV, Phone and Internet, while providing network services to SKY,” he says.

The re-sign consolidates the partnership, says Mr Jackson, which has been successful because both businesses focus on what they do best.

TelstraClear offers the cable TV service to its customers in Wellington and Christchurch where it operates successfully off its own Hybrid Fibre Coaxial [HFC] network. TelstraClear is the key telecommunications provider in both regions.

“Rather than competing at a retail level, we have an arrangement allowing both parties to grow market share. We’re committed to our residential offering and it is well received by the market. Nearly half of our residential customers take the triple play package.”

SKY Television Chief Executive John Fellet says, “We are pleased to renew the agreement with TelstraClear, one of our key telecommunications partners, the arrangement with TelstraClear continuing to deliver significant benefits to consumers.”

The agreement sees SKY provide all TelstraClear’s television programming, programming contracts and managing relationships with suppliers.

The new agreement takes effect immediately.
