More telco workers join strike action
Telecom’s Rotorua and Whakatane-based field technicians have joined the nationwide lines engineer strike as of midday today.
The 48 Rotorua and Whakatane EPMU members are employed by Telecom’s Australian-owned contractor Transfield Services.
The action follows strikes from Auckland to Christchurch today in support of their claim for redundancy protection – a significant issue in light of the current threats to job security in the industry.
The strike action now affects Auckland, Hamilton, Rotorua, Whakatane, Wellington, Blenheim, Nelson and Christchurch.
