Intergen Takes The Stage At Global Microsoft Sharepoint Conference

Conference highlights partners, SharePoint 2010 beta release in November

AUCKLAND, New Zealand – 23 October, 2009 – Microsoft solutions provider Intergen presented its expertise in migrating code before an international audience at the 2009 Microsoft SharePoint Conference in Las Vegas this week. The conference attracted delegates from around the globe, including Microsoft New Zealand partners Enlighten Designs, Gen-i, DataSouth, Axon, Intergen, Provoke, KnowledgeCue, Aptimize, and EnvisionIT.

Chris Auld, director of Strategy and Innovation for Intergen, enjoyed a significant role at the event, leading a conference presentation about the mechanics of moving software programming code from Microsoft SharePoint 2007 to the new version of SharePoint 2010.

“At Intergen we’ve been working with Microsoft to build SharePoint developer tools for some time. This presentation looked at some tools that we’ve built to support developers moving to SharePoint 2010, and common issues that developers may face in upgrading.

“I’m delighted to present to this global audience. SharePoint 2010 is a significant advancement, offering platform investments for developers to rapidly build content and collaboration applications. To be able to share our expertise with attendees is an honour.”

In the conference keynote speech, Microsoft Corporation head Steve Ballmer announced that a public beta version of SharePoint 2010 and Office 2010 will be available in November.

He also announced new capabilities of SharePoint 2010, with three core areas including platform investments for developers, enhanced capabilities for Internet sites and choice and flexibility between on-premises and the cloud.

“By taming the overflow of information across systems and technologies, SharePoint enables organizations to thrive,” Ballmer said. “SharePoint 2010 is the biggest and most important release of SharePoint to date. When paired with Office, SharePoint 2010 will transform efficiency by connecting workers across a single collaboration platform for business.”

Some new capabilities for SharePoint 2010 include:

• Integration with Microsoft Visual Studio, giving developers a premier experience with tools they know and trust.

• Rich APIs and support for Silverlight, REST and LINQ, to help developers build applications more easily on the SharePoint platform.

• Business connectivity services, which allow developers to connect capabilities to line-of-business data or web services in SharePoint and the Office client.

• New web content management features with built-in accessibility through WACG, multi-lingual support and one-click page layout, enabling anyone to access SharePoint sites.

• Built in support for rich media such as video, audio and Silverlight, making it easy to build dynamic web sites.

• A single platform that lets businesses easily deliver and manage advanced Internet, intranet and extranet capabilities with fewer costs.

• Enterprise features such as Excel Services and InfoPath Forms Services, which make it simple to use, share, secure and manage interactive forms across an organization.

• The addition of two new SharePoint SKUs for Internet-facing sites, including an on-premises and hosted offer.
