Regulatory report welcomed
Business NZ has welcomed the Regulatory Responsibility Taskforce’s recommendations to improve the quality of legislation in New Zealand.
Business NZ Chief Executive Phil O’Reilly says excessive poor quality regulation can hinder productive business.
The Taskforce’s recommendations include a number of principles to follow when creating new law, including equality, consultation and respect for property rights.
Mr O’Reilly said the report was a good step towards the adoption of a Regulatory Responsibility Act.
“A Regulatory Responsibility Act has the potential to improve our laws in the same way that the Fiscal Responsibility Act, now part of the Public Finance Act, has improved transparency in the country’s economic management and reporting.”
