IP firm A J Park welcomes Government focus on innovation

New Zealand’s leading intellectual property (IP) law firm, A J Park, welcomes the Government’s pledge to make science and innovation a priority in this year’s Budget.

In his opening address in Parliament today, Prime Minister John Key said that New Zealand’s future economic performance would largely depend on ‘generating and using ideas’.

“This is great news for New Zealand,” said A J Park’s managing partner, Greg Arthur. “We work with the country’s most innovative and creative people. We know the challenges they face and we’re glad to see that science, research and technology is top of the Government’s agenda for 2010 and beyond.”

“As a nation we’re great at generating ideas. Our future success will depend on how these ideas are translated into business opportunities, here and abroad. IP plays a crucial role in harnessing the value of a great idea. Without protecting, enforcing and commercialising your IP great ideas can be compromised or lost forever, ” Mr Arthur said.

Mr Arthur also applauded the Government’s drive to help the science and business communities work closer together. “This is where strategic IP advice will be vital. With the right commercial legal structures in place, New Zealand can capitialise on our R&D and open up export markets all around the world.”

A J Park is New Zealand’s largest IP firm, specialising in patents, trade marks, copyright, registered designs and the commercialisation of IP. A J Park acts for nearly half the top 100 companies in New Zealand, and represents the interests over 60% of world’s biggest brands here in New Zealand.
