New Zealand’s Newest World Champion
Over the Moon Dairy, Putaruru
New Zealand’s
Newest World Champion
On March 18 2010, Over the Moon Dairy was recognised by the international cheese community as the world’s best producer of semi-soft mixed milk and flavoured sheep cheese.
At the 2010 World Cheese Championship in Wisconsin, USA, we were awarded Best of Class for both our Buffalo and Goat Tomme and our Cumin Sheep Pecorino. Our Double Delight took out a third place, our Goat Feta a fifth and our Galactic Gold was also in the top ten in their respective classes. Not bad for small artisan cheesemaker in South Waikato!
Our 8 entries were stacked up against over 2300 cheeses and butters from 20 countries to come out on top, and we are OVER THE MOON!
These accolades follow hot on the heels of our outstanding performance at the 2010 Cuisine New Zealand Champion of Cheese Awards where from our 22 entries, 18 medals were awarded for cheeses made at Over the Moon Dairy; that’s a staggering 82% success rate at 25% more awards than any other single cheese producer in the same competition.
Sue Arthur, Director, arrives home from Wisconsin on Saturday 20 March, and we’d love to share her experience and story. We think New Zealand would want to know what can happen when a team of passionate, inspired, enthusiastic, hard-working kiwis just get on with the business of being the best they can be, using the freshest local ingredients in innovative ways to achieve stellar results. If you think so too, then please be in contact.
