Prime Minister opens ASB Showgrounds redevelopment

Prime Minister, the Honourable John Key opens $31m ASB Showgrounds redevelopment.

Prime Minister, the Honourable John Key, officially opened the final stage three of the $31m ASB Showgrounds redevelopment in Greenlane today, Friday 7th May 2010.

The final stage, which sees the completion of the new colonnade, frontage, foyer and vehicle dock for the historic 3,000 seat Logan Campbell Centre, completes the new $31m redevelopment of ASB Showgrounds.

With a new hub, food court, functions rooms, wine bar, entry and registration areas, and extensions to the exhibition halls, ASB Showgrounds is truly a world-class multi-dimensional venue.

Exhibition space has been increased to 18,000m2 further reinforcing ASB Showgrounds’ status as New Zealand’s premier events and exhibition centre. The venue is now featuring on the world stage to attract more high profile international exhibitions, shows and events.

“This redevelopment will deliver significant economic benefits to the Auckland region through increased NZ-wide and international visitors attending events at ASB Showgrounds,” ASB Showgrounds CEO, Mark Frankham said.

Support from the Government, along with other cornerstone funders, naming rights partner ASB Bank, ASB Trust and Auckland City Council, made this exceptional redevelopment possible.

“I am confident we will continue to exceed expectations well into the future and will provide improved facilities to community and charitable organizations that use our facilities for educational and vocational purposes,” Mr. Frankham said.

Support for the redevelopment came from numerous parties including Cornwall Park Trust, ASB Showgrounds’ loyal customer base, the ASB Community Trust, the Auckland Regional Council, the Employers and Manufacturing Association, Chamber of Commerce, Regional Councils, the A&P Council and numerous ethnic and community users.
