Grants worth almost $1.5 million for learning

Grants worth almost $1.5 million for learning projects in Auckland and Northland

ASB Community Trust has this month approved almost $1.5 million worth of grants for learning projects in Auckland and Northland.

The community trust’s monthly board meeting approved grants including $66,325 to the Shakti Community Council to help with its project to provide community-based training for the social and economic wellbeing of disadvantaged ethnic women, especially those from South East Asia, South Asia and the Middle East.

Another group working with new migrants, Auckland Regional Migrant Services, was granted $32,500 to help with the cost of operating a multicultural playgroup for preschoolers of refugee families, while Adult Literacy’s $45,000 grant will help run literacy programmes in Freemans Bay and Glen Innes.

“We support projects that improve educational outcomes by adding value to the sector,” says Trust CEO Jennifer Gill, and our focus is on innovative projects and lifelong learning.”

Other grants approved for those working in the learning sector included $60,000 to the First Foundation, $50,000 to the I Have a Dream Trust, $26,000 to the Foundation for the Deaf and $56,000 to the Storytime Foundations (formerly the Books for Babes Trust).

The Trust also approved more than $800,000 in grants to almost 100 of the region’s kindergartens, early childhood centres and schools for resources such as books and playground equipment.

“We have recently reduced the financial reporting requirements for small groups applying for learning projects such as play equipment and outdoor area upgrades, so we hope that will now make it even easier for these groups to apply,” Ms Gill says.

More information about these quick-response grants is on the Trust’s website: asbcommunitytrust.org.nz/funding/what-we-fund/learning/quick-response-grants
