Today appliance retailer The Good
Guys celebrated the grand opening of their first large
format stores in Wairau Park and Botany Downs with a
community cash injection.
The Good Guys believe in giving back to the community where customers and employees work and live. Today both stores kicked things off with the help of Olympic kayaker Steven Ferguson and actor Will Hall, each taking a turn in The Good Guys ‘cash grab booth’ to raise money for local charities.
At Wairau Park funds were dedicated to Youthworx, a community group that supports a network of 160 organisations working with young people in the North Shore. The organisation will use the cash to buy sound gear and musical instruments that will boost their resource bank and increase access to the increasing collective of young event organisers and musicians across the North Shore, running their own youth for youth events, workshops, and entertainment.
At Botany Downs funds were dedicated to Totara Park Riding for the Disabled, a group that provides therapeutic interaction with horses in order to develop increased ability and self esteem for children and adults with physical, intellectual and mental health difficulties. The money raised will be used to buy a new horse that will extend their services to the community.
Will Hall was successful in grabbing $1,000 The Good Guys dollars for Totara Park Riding for the Disabled, but Steven Ferguson came out on top with $3,500. In both stores proprietors Jim Yule and Majid Poortoossi topped up the effort to $5,000.
Both stores opened their doors at 8:00am to a lucky 30 individuals who won the opportunity to grab their share of The Good Guys dollars, $10,000 worth in each store fell from the ceiling during a minute long exclusive lock-in.
Throughout the four day grand opening celebrations everyone in-store also has the opportunity to win a place inside The Good Guys cash grab booth to try their luck at grabbing their share of $1,000 The Good Guys dollars to spend in store. There will also be face-painting, clowns, fairies, coffee and hot cookies on offer throughout the long weekend of celebrations.
In the appliance retail market, which is dominated by ‘interest free’ promotional advertising, newcomer ‘The Good Guys’ encourages consumers to opt for debt reducing payment choices with their ‘Pay Less, Pay Cash’, philosophy, and ask for a discount. Jim explains;
“The concept of ‘Pay Less, Pay Cash’ originated back in times when paying on the spot with cash was a common way to negotiate a deal. These days you can pay any way you like, we’re just encouraging people to get the price down by asking for a discount.”
The Good Guys ‘Pay Less, Pay Cash’ philosophy also encourages customers to opt for payment methods that involve their own money, avoiding additional payments and unwanted debt associated with credit and finance schemes.
The Good Guys New Zealand entry comes after almost 60 years of steady growth in the Australian market. Since its inception in 1952, The Good Guys have expanded their operations to now encompass 92 appliance retail stores across Australia.
Each store is divided into several areas including a tech zone, a TV zone and a home appliance area. All the major brands are represented including Apple computers and Fisher & Paykel appliances are stocked alongside competitor brands, following the recent termination of Fisher & Paykel exclusive dealer arrangements.
