Taranaki Exporter Heads To Shanghai
A Taranaki seafood company will build its contacts in the important Chinese consumer market thanks to an all-expenses-paid-trip to Shanghai sponsored by ANZ.
Egmont Seafoods’ managing director Keith Mawson was selected for a place on the tour after entering a competition announced at the New Zealand Seafood Industry Conference in May.
New Zealand Seafood Industry Council chief executive Peter Bodeker said the prize was further evidence of the longstanding relationship between the industry and ANZ.
“I extend my congratulations to Keith. The trip will give him and his company a valuable opportunity to use ANZ’s expertise and experience in this exciting and developing market for seafood.”
Mr Mawson said the trip would give Egmont Seafoods an opportunity to explore a market which is challenging for smaller operators to enter.
“There are social and logistical issues involved in entering the Chinese market which the bank will help us navigate. The sheer size of the market means the opportunities will be vast.”
The week-long tour to Shanghai, Tiajin and Beijing leaves on September 10.
The New Zealand seafood industry is one of the country’s most important exporters, contributing $1.4 billion to its GDP.
