The Apprentice NZ woman offers tips to
score the big jobs
“Fame or fortune?” was
one of the questions applicants for The Apprentice NZ
television series were asked in their interview for the
role. The woman who made it to the final three on the show,
Catherine Livingstone, told the interviewer she wanted
neither.
Now Livingstone is on TV again offering tips on how to score not just the big jobs, but the dream role.
Livingstone gained the reputation for being a tough competitor on The Apprentice – shrewd, sharp and perceptive. Businesswomen all over New Zealand held her in the highest esteem as she maintained her standards and stayed strong to the end.
She will appear on the Good Morning television show on Tuesdays during August. The show screens every weekday from 9am to midday. Some of the tips Livingstone will offer in the job series include how to apply online, what to wear to the interview, body language, and securing the job of your dreams.
More than 2000 people applied to be on The Apprentice NZ, Livingstone says. “It got down to 100 people at the interview then 14 contestants. I feel like it’s a massive achievement to accomplish the goal of being the last woman standing,”
“The most important thing to remember when applying for a job is to stand out from the crowd”, Livingstone says. It starts with the subject line in your application email right through to an answer to a question in the interview, you must stand out.
So what else did Livingstone say when she responded that she did not want fame or fortune from being The Apprentice? “I said ‘as long as I am doing what I am passionate about, whatever comes along is going to be a bonus’.”
Livingstone was also asked the standard question: “What do you want to be doing in five years time?” She replied: “I want to be living on a farm with lots of chickens and goats and a donkey.” Her response certainly made the interviewer take notice, look up from his sheet of questions and laugh, she says.
Don’t worry, she might want to live on a lifestyle block but Livingstone says she will always be heavily involved in business.
Livingstone has had a huge amount of experience working as a recruitment consultant, hiring and managing staff, as well as taking on projects where she coaches CEOs in body language skills so they can be more receptive to their staff. Her website www.ruready.co.nz has testimonials from people thrilled with the job coaching service she provides.
In the current business climate Catherine is helping corporate organisations through the change process. The companies are offering RU Ready services to staff members so they can re-enter the job market armed with the best skills possible. “Some people have worked at the same place for over 10 years and it has been a long time since they had to put a CV together. It is great to give them confidence again and watch them move forward positively. This benefits both the employee leaving and the organisation making the changes”, Livingstone states.
On the Good Morning show, Livingstone will offer over $1000 worth of RU Ready services including a body language coaching session, CV development and guidance throughout the whole process of job application to securing a role.
Next week Livingstone will be at the Bizzone Expo in Christchurch (11/12/13th of August) where she will give away a brunch meeting with herself for Saturday the 14th of August - “breakfast is on me”, Catherine states. All people have to do is come along to the expo at the convention centre and register for the competition at the Web Widgets stand.
