Public consultation gets thumbs up from InternetNZ
Media Release – 15 September 2010 – InternetNZ (Internet New Zealand Inc) welcomes the opportunity the Government is providing to publicly explore regulatory issues relating to the Ultrafast Broadband process.
InternetNZ congratulates Minister Steven Joyce on the release of a 30-page discussion document relating to the regulatory implications of a potential structural separation of Telecom.
InternetNZ will hold workshops in Auckland and Wellington in early October to bring together stakeholders, industry and the public in open discussion to assist with development of submissions. Details to be advised shortly.
InternetNZ Chief Executive Vikram Kumar says the Government’s consultation will enable stakeholders, industry and the public to consider all the implications and contribute to policy developments.
“At first glance the discussion document provides a useful structure for exploring issues that may arise. InternetNZ will prepare a detailed submission following the workshops and consultation with our members.
“New Zealand’s telecommunications landscape would alter substantially should Telecom separate and we encourage anyone with an interest in the future of the Internet in New Zealand to pay attention now and ensure their views are heard.”
