Association Applauds Bill To raise industry standards
The Chairman of the NZSA Mr Peter Freeman has
welcomed the passing of the Private Investigators and
Security Guards Act. “Since the legislation was enacted 36
years ago there have been massive changes to the sector. The
change in technology alone has completely altered the face
of the industry. The legislation was desperately in need of
an upgrade. ” said NZSA Chairman Peter
Freeman.
“We have been asking for this
legislation to be updated for the past 7 years and we
congratulate the Hon Nathan Guy for the efficient way he has
progressed this legislation through the house.
“As an organisation we have done our best to
ensure that our members are delivering to a set of high
quality standards. The public needs to know that the
security firm they are dealing with has integrity and is
well trained. This new legislation which incorporates
compulsory training and increased rigour around the
enforcement of security guard licensing, is most important
to the raising and maintaining of professional standards in
the security profession.
“We need effective
legislation to enforce security guard licensing standards
otherwise it will always be possible for maverick operators
to hire out staff. This legislation goes a long way to
protecting the public and ensuring the security company they
deal with is both professional and well qualified to protect
both them and their property.
