Christchurch City Council Tree Contract

Christchurch City Council Tree Contract

Specialist Christchurch tree-care company Treetech has won a significant contract with Christchurch City Council for the maintenance of trees in the city’s parks. Worth $800K per annum over the next ten years, the contract includes the pruning, moving, removal and planting of trees in the city’s 898 parks.

Treetech Managing Director, Chris Walsh, says the contract is a big win for the company, beating companies nationwide for the contract after a thorough tendering process. He says that the council should be congratulated for looking beyond the incumbent provider, the council owned company City Care.

“We have a large team of very experienced arborists and the infrastructure to deliver real efficiencies for the ratepayers of Christchurch,” said Walsh. “We have been interested in this contract for quite a long time now, and have had many discussions with various parties involved along the way.

“The fact that the council have moved away from City Care to an independent provider means that the Council are serious about becoming more open, and about finding the most cost effective solutions for rate-payers.”

The tender process involved a lengthy assessment of capabilities and expertise involved in delivering such a substantial level of services across the city. Walsh believes Treetech’s experience in providing tree management services for a range of large-scale organisations was a major factor in its successful proposal.

“When we were going through the evaluation process with the council, our ability to deliver tree-care services for big clients, like Orion and the Waimakariri District Council, was an invaluable demonstration of our capability and commitment to best practice. “We have worked hard to grow our infrastructure, as well as develop internal processes,” said Walsh. “Treetech meets ISO standards for both health and safety, and environmental management, ISO9001 and ISO14001 respectively. We are now at a level where we also exceed maximum required service levels for quality in many other service areas.

“Now we are looking forward to working with the Council in what we hope will be a long and effective partnership for the people of Christchurch.”
