Beca appoints Jim Salmon as Asia MD

Technical design and engineering consultancy Beca today announced the appointment of Jim Salmon as Managing Director – Asia. Mr Salmon will lead the technical design group’s operations out of its Asian hub in Singapore from the end of this month.

A civil engineer by training, Mr Salmon has more than 27 years’ experience in the infrastructure sector, most recently as Executive General Manager, Projects and Engineering, for the Australia and New Zealand business of Transfield Services.

He has worked on the project management, construction management and financing of major infrastructure and building projects in Australia, South East Asia and the Middle East.

Beca’s Asian business is focused predominantly in the buildings sector, and the New Zealand consultancy is a leader in the design of green buildings in Singapore. Beca’s Asia Chairman, Lee Chuan Seng, a graduate of the engineering faculty at the University of Auckland, was recently appointed as the first president of Singapore’s Green Building Council.

Most notable recent projects in Asia include the Macau Tower, Singapore National Library, Fonterra’s Tangshan facility in China, Pacific Place Jakarta, and Sky Park at the Marina Bay Sands resort.

Beca’s Asian business is also strongly focused on the industrial, infrastructure and project management sectors throughout Asia.

Mr Salmon will complete handover with current incumbent Mike Quirk, who returns to headquarters in Auckland to lead Beca’s buildings division.
