Rally around Canterbury’s Flagship Winery

As Kiwis, we all want to help our Cantabrian community as much as we can as they start a long process to recovery. We have all done some amazing fundraising and long may those much needed donations continue.

However there is another very important way we need to help Canterbury get back on its feet; where possible we should do our utmost to support their business community.

This week the family and team at FWDC have chosen to rally our customers and all of our resources in behind supporting Canterbury’s flagship winery “Pegasus Bay” for one week.

The Donaldson family; owners of Pegasus Bay, pioneered winegrowing/making in the now internationally famous Waipara region 45-minutes north of Christchurch city. They have produced some of NZ’s finest wines over the last two plus decades and through their pursuit of perfection in the vineyards and excellence in the winery they have become one of only five NZ wineries to be accorded a Robert Parker Wine Advocate 5 Star rating.

Christchurch city is the largest single market for Canterbury wineries; in the September 2010 quake the majority of restaurants/bars/retailers escaped unscathed and trading quickly resumed to normal levels. However this latest quake caused widespread devastation and when I spoke with Ed Donaldson from Pegasus Bay last week he informed me a massive 54 restaurants/bars/retailers have been badly damaged and it will be a long time before the doors to theses local licensed establishments will be open again for trading
