News Release

Turners & Growers Chair, Tony Gibbs Not Seeking Re-Election

Turners & Growers Managing Director, Jeff Wesley has today advised the NZX that the company’s Chairman, Tony Gibbs is not seeking re-election at the Turners & Growers AGM on June 30th.

Jeff Wesley said, “It is with regret that I advise our Chairman and long standing Director, Tony Gibbs has decided not to offer himself for re-election at the AGM scheduled for 30th June.”

“Tony has led Turners & Growers for 16 successful years and in that time the company has grown from a small domestic fruit and produce company to a global fresh produce leader proudly operating on the world stage. His contribution to the company has been enormous.”

“Under Tony’s steady hand Turners & Growers has grown dramatically as a company, become a significant player in the international fresh produce industry and innovated new fruit varieties such as Jazz and Envy apples, Enza Gold & Enza Red kiwifruit, Enza Blue Blueberries and others.”

Tony will remain a major supplier to T&G with his Ezypeel Mandarins and the Board, management, staff and horticulture industry will all join with me in wishing Tony all the best for the future and thanking him for the enormous contribution he has made to the company and the industry, which he is so passionate about.”

Mr Wesley said the company remains committed to key initiatives led by Tony Gibbs including continuing to champion the need for an end to Zespri’s outdated monopoly over New Zealand kiwifruit exports.
