Kiwi Production Company Wins International Gold

Emmy award winning Wellington-based TV production company KHF Media has won a Gold World Medal at the prestigious 2011 New York Festivals International Television and Film Awards for the first season of its hit interactive online drama series Reservoir Hill.

Reservoir Hill – which screened online on TVNZ On Demand – follows the complicated life of teenager Beth Connolly and explores issues faced by teens. By cleverly combining several types of media – TV drama, SMS and the internet – the show allows the tech-savvy ‘Twilight generation’ to communicate with Beth via text and online.

Last year, the first series of Reservoir Hill also won an International Emmy award, while this year, the show’s second series, Everyone Lies, received a second nomination. The programme has also taken out several other accolades, including the 2010 Qantas Award for the Best Children’s/Youth Programme.

Co-producer/directors David Stubbs and Thomas Robins, who have recently returned from Cannes, are thrilled that the show is going from success to success.

“It’s an unexpected honour,” Robins says.

“All the hard work from our wonderful team here in Wellington is hugely appreciated by us and we hope they are all as proud as we are of Reservoir Hill. Being recognised on the world stage again is just superb.”

Stubbs agrees.

“KHF is working with some very talented people here in Wellington, and these awards are a testament to these people – our collaborators and supporters – who were there with us and had our backs all the way through the production process,” he says.

“This demonstrates that New Zealand drama and innovative storytelling does have a place on the world stage. Hopefully this is just the beginning of bigger things for KHF and our collaborators.”

KHF Media were also named as finalists in last night’s Wellington Gold awards.
