Contractors call for NZTA to be involved in Alliance for duration
The New Zealand Contractors’ Federation has called for the New Zealand Transport Agency to remain closely involved with the Alliance to rebuild Christchurch.
NZCF Chief executive Jeremy Sole welcomed the signing of the Interim Alliance Agreement as “A great way to ensure the available resources are deployed efficiently and effectively for the benefit of Christchurch”.
Mr Sole said that the federation understood that the Alliance aimed to use local contractors wherever possible and that there would be a strong component of training and upskilling for local industry.
“That is very much to be welcomed too,” he said. “The federation also considers the NZTA to be the best organisation to pull the Alliance together and we sincerely hope that they are invited to remain involved for the duration.
“NZTA has significant experience in establishing alliances and has earned huge respect and a great deal of trust from the industry.
“The Alliance is going to be a very complex arrangement to put together and hold together. The main players will all be working with the Agency in other areas of the road construction agenda so everyone has very good reasons to work hard to ensure that relationships remain intact.”
