Renaissance Brewing brings enlightenment to the darkness

Renaissance Brewing brings enlightenment to the darkness by winning trophy at the world’s second largest beer competition

24th May - For Immediate Release

Marlborough based craft brewers, Renaissance brewing, are celebrating a huge win at the Australian International Beer Awards. Their Craftsman Oatmeal Chocolate Stout won the Cleanevent Trophy for Champion Stout at what is now the world’s second largest beer competition and was the only beer from New Zealand to pick up a trophy in the competition. Renaissance also proudly accepted silver medals for their Scotch Ale, Porter and Imperial IPA at the gala awards dinner in Melbourne.

Renowned as one of the pioneers of craft beer in New Zealand, these awards, and especially the trophy for Craftsman, cement their reputation as the southern hemisphere’s masters of dark beer. Their Stonecutter Scotch Ale is a previous trophy winner and was a recent inclusion in the “1001 Beers to Try Before Die” and the Elemental Porter is ranked as the third best beer in all of Australasia on the widely used consumer ratings website ratebeer.com.

Chief Brewer, Andy Deuchars said of the win.

“We are extremely pleased at receiving this award, not only does it cement our reputation for producing premium quality dark Ales, but it also justifies my large cocoa nib expenditures.”

Co-Founder and Director of Renaissance Brewing, Brian Thiel, who picked up the award on behalf of the brewery, was very proud that Renaissance’s uncompromising philosophy towards quality was paying off.

“At the AIBA last year we were one of three breweries short-listed for the world’s best small brewery, to go a step further and actually win a trophy is fantastic. The Craftsman is our winter seasonal beer and we only make a very small amount in comparison to our other beers. Even before it won this award it had become one of the icons of our range and demand for it way outstrips the amount we make. We are a boutique brewery, and a lot of heart and soul goes into each beer we brew, which makes successes like this all the more sweet.”

Craftsman Oatmeal Chocolate Stout, the winning beer, is due for general release in New Zealand on the 2nd June, with craft beer fans being able to get a first taste of it on 1st June at a number of craft beer bars around the country. The Craftsman is also being shipped to export markets and will be available on shelves in the United States, Australia and Italy from July onwards.
