PRESS RELEASE: FOR IMMEDIATE DISTRIBUTION

The Brewer's Guild of New Zealand

Entries are in for the New Zealand Beer Awards 2011

The Brewers’ Guild of New Zealand announces the upcoming judging for the country’s most prestigious beer awards. Breweries churning out 55,000 litres every six hours will go head to head with garage breweries working all day to squeeze 200 litres into a fermenter.

To ensure a level playing field, each beer is blind tasted by a group of judges against recognised standards in each of the 90 style categories. Winners are awarded gold, silver or bronze by how closely their beer achieves the desired style traits. A trophy is also awarded to the best beer in each of the 18 classes.

As in previous years, the coveted champion International Brewery and champion New Zealand Brewery will be named, and the Morton Coutts (‘godfather’ of New Zealand brewing) Trophy will be awarded to the most innovative brewery.

The awards will be announced at a grand gala dinner to be held at the Wellington Town Hall on 4 August 2011. This entertaining evening, including a three-course dinner and plenty of craft beer on tap, will be followed by Beervana – New Zealand’s premier beer-tasting event – on 5 and 6 August at Westpac Stadium.

The first week of August is set to takes its place as THE week for beer in New Zealand. To join in the celebration or find out more, visit http://brewersguild.org.nz/ for full information.
