11 October 2011

Canterbury Business Recovery Trust partners with the Vodafone Foundation

The Vodafone Foundation and the Canterbury Business Recovery Trust have partnered to help small and medium sized Canterbury businesses to grow following Christchurch’s recent earthquakes. Through the partnership the Canterbury Business Recovery Trust will provide wage subsidy grants to small and medium businesses looking to grow.

Trust Fund executive director, Louise Edwards, says “we are thrilled to be working with the Vodafone Foundation and are grateful for their very generous support which will help earthquake affected businesses rebuild and grow.

“To date, the Trust Fund has helped 163 businesses employing nearly 1,200 people. We’ve paid out $2.5 million in grants and interest free loans to businesses in need in the Canterbury region.”

Bruce Irvine, Chairman of the Trust, says “We’re looking forward to working with the Vodafone Foundation. Their generosity will enable businesses to take on new staff, creating additional jobs in Canterbury which will help the local and national economy to grow. The vision of the Trust is to help create a thriving and prosperous business community in Canterbury.”

The Canterbury Business Recovery Trust Fund is an initiative of Recover Canterbury with the purpose of raising and distributing funds for business support after the Canterbury earthquakes. Recover Canterbury is a joint venture that brings together the expertise and resources of the South Island’s two largest business support agencies, Canterbury Development Corporation and Canterbury Employers’ Chamber of Commerce, along with several government agencies involved in business support.

Trustees Bruce Irvine, Andrew Thorburn, Humphry Rolleston, Lady Adrienne Stewart and Sir John Anderson are responsible for the distribution of the Trust Fund to Canterbury businesses. Applications for assistance from the Fund are made through Recover Canterbury via www.recovercanterbury.co.nz. Donations can be made at www.cbrt.co.nz
