Massey to hold events for Global Entrepreneurship Week

Massey to hold events for Global Entrepreneurship Week

Auckland, November 15th 2011 - Massey University’s business innovation centre will be holding a series of events this week as part of Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW).

The ecentre, based on the Albany campus, is hosting a business case challenge today, with participants working on a case relating to a start up business as opposed to working on a more established business in traditional case competitions.”It is a great way of giving participants a better understanding on what it means to start your own business as it will require the teams to put themselves into the shoes of a start up entrepreneur,” says Sabrina Nagel, Business Strategist at ecentre.

The competition will be judged by Sabrina Nagel, Chris Lock of Auckland Tourism, Events and Economic Development (ATEED), and Enrico de Klerk, CEO of start up company Hub9. Hub9 is the company that the case will be based on.

A mystery prize will go to the winning team with the most innovative and creative approach to the case, as judged by the panel. The event runs from 12:45-7pm, with presentations at 5:30pm.

GEW kicked off yesterday morning in Wellington and runs from November 14-20th. GEW is a powerful global movement that runs events all year round, culminating in a one week event that more than 100 countries participate in to celebrate innovation and entrepreneurial spirit. The event is globally sponsored by the Kauffman Foundation, and sponsored here in New Zealand by Massey University.

Katie Petersen, manager in Advancing Innovation for the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation will be speaking at ecentre on Wednesday 16th November. Katie, also the manager for the Kauffman Innovation network programme iBridge, will offer insights to a group of students, academics and start up businesses.

As part of GEW, ecentre is additionally hosting a business idea workshop on Friday 18th November from 10am-12pm. This is a free 2 hour workshop giving entrepreneurs direction on what to do when they have a business idea, why market validation is important and tools and methodologies to validate their business idea, and develop a business model for growth and success.

“We are very excited about this week, as it is so important for the future of New Zealand to promote entrepreneurship as a career,” says Steve Corbett, CEO of ecentre, who encourages everyone to “get involved”.
