Mammoth B Shed leased to demolition company
Kiwi Rail has leased its mammoth B Shed in Cass Street, Christchurch, to a demolition company in a five-year deal.
Spanning a hectare of warehouse, the shed is the biggest warehouse within a kilometre of the CBD and was previously home to Westland Milk Products for eight years.
Ben Dwan, specialist industrial broker at Colliers International in Christchurch, who negotiated the deal, said the B Shed incorporated 10,388m2 of warehouse on a 19,000m2 site.
“Shed B’s location so close to the CBD is ideal for the demolition company as it wants to use the site to sort and recycle material from the buildings that will be pulled down over the next few years. There are also two active rail sidings into the property.
“Kiwi Rail has been very supportive through the leasing process. We first put B Shed on the market two years ago and through the process Kiwi Rail has been keen to ensure that the right tenant was found.
“They are keen to see Christchurch back on its feet and attracting a demolition company fitted with this redevelopment theme,” he said.
