Kordia NZ Monitors New DVB-T2 Platform With Bridge Technologies Probes Supplied By Magna Systems And Engineering

New Zealand’s first DVB-T2 platform

AUCKLAND, 10 April 2012 — New Zealand’s first DVB-T2transmission network, built by national broadcast transmission company Kordia for the country’s new IGLOO TV pay television platform, will use a VideoBRIDGE end-to-end monitoring and analysis system. The system, a first in New Zealand, includes Bridge Technologies’ VB120 probes, supplied by Magna Systems and Engineering, for advanced monitoring of its digital transmission services. Kordia owns and operates New Zealand’s third largest telecommunications network by geographical reach and provides terrestrial transmission services for all the major television operators. The new DVB-T2 service will be delivered from 19 main sites.

Magna Systems and Engineering Head of Technology Richard Greed said, “Using the new features of T2, Kordia will be deploying a single physical layer pipe (PLP) and has chosen modulation parameters that will provide comparable coverage to their existing DVB-T services. The new technology has however raised the data rate achievable in an 8 MHz channel from 26 Mb/s to 38 Mb/s allowing IGLOO TV to operate 12 SD services in a single former analogue TV channel.”

The VideoBRIDGE components Magna Systems supplied to Kordia includes multiple VB120 probes with ASI, IP inputs and VB252 probes with COFDM interfaces and will provide comprehensive monitoring capability of their service. The expanded ETR290 and T2-MI monitoring functions of the VB120, and VB252 probes are part of the VideoBRIDGE version 4.9 software release, which also adds powerful RF measurements and MIP analysis as well as alarming and support for a wide range of standards and formats.
