Big Winners at the Canon Media Awards 2012

Big Winners at the Canon Media Awards 2012

The Weekend Herald won the highly coveted title Canon Newspaper of the Year at the Canon Media Awards held this evening in Auckland.

Media from across the country were celebrated at the annual awards, recognising those who work in print and online media.

The Weekend Herald also scooped Best Weekly Newspaper of the Year, for the second year running. The Press definitely didn't leave empty handed as they picked up a total of nine awards including Best Newspaper of the Year (with a circulation of over 30,000), Best Newspaper Design, Best Senior Reporter of the Year and Best Junior Reporter of the Year. The Bay of Plenty Times was awarded Best Newspaper of the Year (with a circulation of up to 30,000) where Best Newsstand Magazine was presented to New Zealand Listener.

Yusuke Mizoguchi, Managing Director of Canon New Zealand, describes The Canon Media Awards as a great excuse to showcase New Zealand's media talent.

"Canon is delighted to be both a sponsor and part of this event and it is always a pleasure to see the great efforts of the New Zealand print and online media.

Tonight was a chance to commend the hugely talented and dedicated people that help to make up New Zealand media," says Mizoguchi.

Martin van Beynen from The Press was named Senior Reporter of the Year and Senior Newspaper Feature Writer of the Year and was presented with the Canon Reporter Cup. He also won the Wolfson Fellowship to Cambridge University. Olivia Carville, also from The Press, was named Junior Reporter of the Year.
