Winning real estate auctioneer eyes national champs

Winning real estate auctioneer eyes national champs

Hamilton, 15 June 2012 – Lodge Real Estate’s own Campbell Scott has walked away with a first-place trophy at this year’s annual Barfoot & Thompson Auctioneers’ Championships, held on 8 June in Auckland.

Mr Scott now heads to the Real Estate Institute of New Zealand’s National Auctioneers’ Championship on 25 and 26 June at the Ellerslie Convention Centre, where he vies for the national prize.

Mr Scott was invited to compete in the event’s Senior Division and beat 12 other fast-talking, loose-tongued contestants to win the prize. Contestants represented a range of real estate agencies from across New Zealand.

Mr Scott has only been calling auctions for three years and says he was honoured to win the contest as he was up against some very experienced industry veterans.

“Some of the auctioneers I was competing against have called over 7000 auctions. I’ve only called a few hundred. The win, for me, is a great vote of confidence. It’s terrific to be acknowledged for something I really enjoy doing for my clients,” says Mr Scott.

Campbell Scott has been with Lodge Real Estate in Hamilton for ten years. He manages the company’s Rototuna office and specialises in selling multi-dwelling properties.

“It would be great to win at the national champs, but most importantly, I’m looking forward to going along and learning from some of the best auctioneers in our industry,” says Mr Scott.

If he places at nationals, he will have the opportunity to attend the Australasian Auctioneering Championships in Melbourne in September.

Mr Scott says he is getting a lot of practice as the local market’s demand for auctions continues to grow. “We’re seeing more and more clients selling their homes through auctions here in Hamilton. People are realising that auctions are often the best mechanism to get maximum exposure for a property and maximum sales price.”
