Focus on industry and vocational skills
overdue
The Government's plans to boost industry skills
training are overdue though nonetheless very welcome, the
Employers and Manufacturers Association says.
"Lifting people's skills levels is an investment that keeps paying back over and over again delivering on-going value to our economy and communities," said Kim Campbell, EMA's chief executive.
"Of course these sorts of industry based skills
are absolutely vital if we are to maintain our standards of
living.
"So the ways by which we can get the best return
on our investment in skills training should remain under
constant review.
"The emphasis on building transferable skills strengthens the case for life-long learning which is increasingly important due to changes in technology and our ageing demographic.
"We look forward to getting more of the detail referred to over the next six weeks."
