Solid Energy resource consents for Coal Seam Gas in the Waikato
Solid Energy rejects claims made by the Green Party today that the company carried out fracking in the Waikato without Waikato Regional Council (WRC) permission.
The then Environment Waikato (now the WRC) confirmed with Solid Energy in 2007 that a proposal to frack at the company’s Waikato coal seam gas operation could be carried out within the company’s existing consents. Once analysis of ongoing water production confirmed the absence of fracking fluids, discharge in accordance with existing consents was allowed by the WRC.
Fracking was completed between 30 August and 6 September 2007, meeting all obligations under resource consents, as required by the WRC at that time.
