Ascend Rugs brings a new dimension to interior design

The entire Ascend Rugs collection can now be carried easily in your briefcase, ready to be positioned, resized and photographed to find the perfect match for any room. The Christchurch-based company has launched an augmented reality (AR) application for the iPad, making it easier than ever to trial and select from their stunning range of handmade wool rugs.

The Ascend Rugs app allows any of the rugs from the collection to be positioned in a room using a simple ‘marker’ that is printed on a sheet of paper and placed on the floor. The free app has been created with interior designers in mind, to help them easily show clients a variety of options without having to carry around cumbersome samples, which can be difficult to visualize at full size.

“The AR technology allows you to experiment with every possible combination of colour, size and placement in the room. When you’ve found the perfect match you can simply email the picture direct from the app, to your client, yourself, or to a sales agent to place an order. It is so easy and intuitive to use, and it’s going to be a great timesaver for both designers and their clients,” said John Grainger, CEO of Ascend Rugs.

The app was designed by The New Zealand Merino Company who saw the opportunity to use AR technology to help Ascend Rugs showcase their entire range of luxurious Merino rugs to a wider audience. The ZQ Merino fibre used in Ascend’s range guarantees the best Merino wool available, backed by an accreditation programme that ensures the integrity of the product. To be accredited to the ZQ Merino programme growers must meet the highest standards for the stewardship of livestock, management of the environment, and socially responsible practices, and resulting products that are of the highest quality.
