Greentree’s UK investment will benefit people in poverty

Greentree’s UK investment will benefit people in poverty

A competition in the UK run by New Zealand-based software company Greentree has captured the imaginations of businesses, and the public, from Britain to Africa, Asia and South America.

GAME ON saw 25,000 votes cast in support of the 10 finalists. It also generated an estimated two million emails, millions of web impressions, and untold social media communications.

Following on from the success of the competition in Australia and New Zealand last year, Greentree invited UK businesses to enter GAME ON, and convince a judging panel that they had a compelling case for winning a business software implementation worth £150,000. The judges selected 10 finalists from scores of entries, and the winner was decided 50-50 by the judges and a public vote.

The grand prize went to Concern Universal, a charity that raises millions of pounds every year to fund development and relief programmes that help hundreds of thousands of people in some of the poorest countries in the world.

Concern Universal intends to make its Greentree system accessible to its staff across the globe. While its UK headquarters will have real-time oversight of all its projects, its staff on the ground will have instant access to relevant information, so they can better manage their projects. They’ll also be able to share information with Concern Universal’s staff in other countries.

“The benefits of this will be huge,” says Concern Universal’s Systems & Services Co-ordinator, Vivienne Mair.

Concern Universal’s Country Director in Malawi, Robin Todd, says Greentree will make the work of staff in the field much easier, through sharing of information and saving of costs. His comments in full can be viewed here.

Harry Mowat, Greentree UK’s Managing Director, says notifying Concern Universal that they’d won was probably the most rewarding phone call he’s ever made.

“Their jubilation is an experience I’ll never forget,” he says. “The judges were absolutely won over by Concern Universal’s proven track record of efficient management and effective distribution of funds to people in need. They knew what Greentree could do for them, they clearly demonstrated the benefits it would bring, and then they rallied that vital public support. It was a fantastic effort.”
