Jetstar reaches five million domestic passengers

5 April 2013

Congratulations to Jetstar for reaching five million domestic passengers

Jetstar’s commitment to making airfares affordable has proven to be very popular amongst Kiwis. Today Jetstar celebrates five million domestic passengers throughout New Zealand.

Since 2009, over one million passengers have flown on the low cost airline to and from Wellington. “We are thrilled that Jetstar has reached such an impressive milestone. We are very proud to have been a part of what they have achieved in just four years – Jetstar’s consistent low fares have been great for Wellington travellers,” said Wellington Airport Chief Commercial Officer, Matt Clarke.

In 2010 Jetstar launched their Wellington to Queenstown route, providing new flight options and competitively priced fares.

“Competition is exciting for passengers and the service to Queenstown has boosted the number of travellers on this route by 200%,” said Mr Clarke.

“Last year Jetstar increased their capacity by 506,000 seats per year on Wellington’s most popular routes and we expect the airline to carry one million passengers to and from the Capital over the next year” said Mr Clarke.

The increase means Jetstar provides a business friendly schedule that has created even more choice for travellers and has stimulated demand.
