Tourism industry welcomes return of Topdeck

Christchurch’s tourism industry is welcoming the news that popular tour bus company Topdeck is re-introducing Christchurch into its national itineraries.

“Topdeck’s re-entry into the Christchurch market is another positive step forward for our tourism industry and reflects the growing confidence in Christchurch as a destination,” says Christchurch & Canterbury Tourism chief executive Tim Hunter.

“It will be great to have more young people visiting the city so we’re really looking forward to welcoming Topdeck back and giving their groups a taste of what an exciting and innovative city Christchurch has become.”

Topdeck Travel specialises in the youth market and is geared towards travellers aged between 18 and 39. The group with will staying at Mainstay’s The Elms in Papanui Road. The first tour into Christchurch arrives this Saturday, 13 April, and the next group on 23 April, with bookings at least twice a month through the winter season.

Topdeck general manager Sarah Clark says Topdeck’s decision to start bringing groups of young travellers into Christchurch is a display of its ongoing support and enthusiasm for what the region has to offer.

“The innovative and inspiring work that has gone into re-inventing this amazing city just confirms that it is Christchurch’s people, not its buildings, that make it such a memorable place for each Topdeck traveller,’’ says Sarah Clark.

Topdeck’s return to Christchurch follows Lonely Planet’s ringing endorsement of Christchurch as an “ever evolving city, buzzing with creativity”.
