NZ Baristas Take it to the World

Internationally acclaimed Barista Aymon McQuade is taking his coffee credentials to the world again as the NZ and Asia-Pacific Barista of the Year 2012 winner has been invited to perform at the Super World Barista Championship in Korea this week.

After taking out the Asia Pacific title, McQuade’s profile has risen in Korea as he has been training under the wing of one of New Zealand’s most qualified Brewmasters Stu Hargie.

McQuade will return from Korea this week with his feet hardly touching the ground before he gets straight into competing at the Brewers Cup in Auckland on April 20, where the winner gets automatic entry to the World Brewers Cup in Melbourne from 23 – 26 May.

The coffee expertise doesn’t stop there with World Sensory Judge and Gravity Brewmaster Stu Hargie and New Zealand National Sensory Judge/Gravity Head Barista Trainer Rob Hulse, competing at the national Cup Tasters Competition on April 19 in Auckland, with the winner qualifying to compete at the Specialty Coffee Association of Europe in France in June.

The Gravity Coffee guru’s work closely together and Brewmaster Stu Hargie has recently re-qualified as a World Barista Judge and is set to judge at the World Barista Championships in Melbourne too. Hargie was head judge at the New Zealand Barista Championship in March this year and is one of only four Q-grade licenced Brewmasters in New Zealand. Hargie also recently re-qualified as a World Brewers Cup judge, a qualification which must be renewed every two years to ensure a high level of international judging is maintained.
