Top 40 Audacious Ideas to Be Announced In Bid For $40,000

Top 40 Audacious Ideas to Be Announced In Bid For $40,000

Over 130 innovative business ideas have been submitted by Otago Polytechnic and University of Otago students as part of the 2013 Audacious entrepreneurship competition.

The top 40 prizewinners to be announced on Thursday 30 May at the Audacious top 40 awards being held at the historic Sargood Centre, Logan Park this Thursday.

The next stage of the programme is the ultimate challenge which will see the top 40 winners compete for the $40,000 worth of cash and services to help the prizewinner start their own venture.

“It’s going to be an exciting night to celebrate the city’s most talented and entrepreneurial young people,” says Upstart Business Incubator Chief Executive Steve Silvey, who is managing this year’s Audacious competition.

Audacious is a student entrepreneurship programme which provides a structure for students who want to start their own ventures with the help of business mentors and some financial backing.

This year marks the introduction of a new category to the programme -‘Doing Good’- designed to mobilise the talent and idealism of Dunedin students who are determined to solve social problems through solution-based initiatives.

“There’s entrepreneurship of all kinds flourishing amongst the Dunedin student population”, says Mr. Silvey. “Now, more than ever, students have a social conscience and it’s important that we provide the right platforms for them to get their ideas off the ground.”
